highlights: christmas + birthday = lots of food, friends, and fun

Ah, the holiday week. This time of year is always jam packed with celebrations because my birthday is just three days after Christmas. I spent the last seven days in Ottawa and tried not to spend my entire energy reserve within the first 48 hours. I took a week off from blogging and teaching and relaxed like crazy. I ate amazing meals with family and friends, watched a bunch of movies and TV while cuddled up on the couch with big mugs of tea. I read a book, slept in, and planned out my goals for 2014.

To celebrate my birthday I had a long overdue visit with some good friends who let me play with their new baby while they made me a fabulous french toast buffet. It was the perfect way to turn 26.

I thought I might end up taking more photos since everything is all wintery and glittery during the holidays, but I found myself enjoying the family moments rather than photographing them. Above is my brother’s nutcracker collection and below are my sister’s shortbread cookies. Below that is the push-pin travel map my siblings and I made for our worldly parents.

All in all it was a fabulous week. Now I feel well rested and raring to jump into 2014! How did your spend your holidays?
