Happy new year everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and a happy new year! I definitely had a great holiday and as you can see from the silence around here, I took some time off from blogging. It was supposed to be just one week but I came down with a pretty bad flu the week before and ended up taking a little more time off than expected. Now I’m back and I’m excited to share some updates with you.
Before the break even started, I had the great pleasure of participating in a charity concert called Jazzin’ The Holidays. This was a triple bill with Nicole Ratté, Elise Letourneau and myself at GigSpace. All of the proceeds went to support the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Ottawa. I’m happy to report that not only did we sell out, but there was a handful of people who waited for a full 45 minutes to see if they could get in and we had to turn people away! Next year we will definitely have to hold the concert at a bigger venue. It was so much fun! We raised over $1000 for SASC.
This winter break was a really relaxing and productive one for me. When I don’t have a million things to do, one of my favourite hobbies is crafting. I made sure to get a bunch of crafting in this break. I made hand-stamped wrapping paper for the presents I gave to my family and I learned how to bind a book using these tutorials. My book turned out so much better than I expected.
I spent Christmas with my family here in Ottawa. We mostly ate and drank and ate and watched Muppet movies. We also had a sing-along which was a family first for us. I was so grateful to be able to spend the holidays surrounded by the people I care about.
Another fun thing about the holidays is that I have a birthday! I turned 25 on December 28 and a bunch of my friends came over to celebrate. I don’t usually have a party since everyone is partied out between Christmas and New Year’s, so this party was really special. We had home-made poutine with miso gravy, and I got a sweet performance cane from my BFF.
I spent New Year’s Eve at Rare restaurant in Kanata. I had a great time playing with Cuban pianist Miguel De Armas. An incredibly versatile and gifted piano player. I have a feeling that won’t be my last performance with him.
