Cognitive Load Games for Trans Voice Work / Once Upon a Time...

Hey there, lovely readers! I've got something exciting to share with you today that's not only fun but also incredibly something you can play with friends. So, if you're ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery and self-expression, keep on reading!

Let's set the stage for a fantastic adventure, just like in those fairy tales we grew up with. Imagine a world where your voice is something that brings you gender euphoria. Whether you're on a quest to discover your new voice or looking to refine your existing one, I'm here to guide you through a transformative exercise that's both enjoyable and community-building.

Before we dive into the heart of the matter, allow me to introduce myself. I'm Renée, a passionate gender-affirming voice teacher. Today, I'm thrilled to share an exercise from my free ebook Cognitive Load Games for Trans Voice Work. This exercise, my dear friends, is called "Once Upon a Time."

A Glimpse into "Once Upon a Time"

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to play out a story while embracing your desired voice? Well, that's precisely what "Once Upon a Time" is all about. Picture a cozy gathering with friends, or even just a pair of voices uniting in a delightful symphony of self-expression. This exercise is usually enjoyed by two or more participants, but don't worry—I've got a solo version for you too!

Here's how it goes in a group setting: one brave person starts by saying those magical words, "once upon a time…" in their desired voice. Each participant then takes their turn, contributing one line that builds upon the story, all while embracing their target voice.

A Twist for Newcomers

If you're new to the world of trans voice work, don't fret! We're all about making this journey comfortable and enjoyable for you. Instead of crafting a whole sentence, you can take it step by step and contribute one word at a time. Remember, the key is to immerse yourself in the experience and gradually build that connection between your voice and your body.

Solo Adventure Time

Now, for those of you who are ready to embark on a solo adventure, I've got a special challenge for you. Rewind this video and join me in the beginning. After I say the words, "once upon a time," hit pause, and let your own voice take the reins as you craft the next line of the story. This is your moment to shine! You can also stitch this video on TikTok or Instagram and share your line in the story with me!

In Closing

Let it dance through the stories you tell, the songs you sing, and the conversations you have. Your voice is an instrument of authenticity, and with exercises like "Once Upon a Time," you're well on your way to unlocking its full potential.

Until next time, keep embracing your voice, and may your stories always be filled with wonder, joy, safety, and authenticity.
