What Would You Do on a Day That Didn’t Count?

Hey there! It's Renée, your gender-affirming voice teacher, here to chat about something that's been on my mind lately: the concept of a day that doesn't count. You know, like February 29th in leap years? It's the perfect opportunity to imagine a day where you can do anything without consequences. But what if we took that idea a step further and explored living authentically without fear every day?

Exploring the Concept of a Day That Doesn't Count

Imagine waking up on February 29th, knowing that whatever you do today won't affect tomorrow. It's a liberating thought, isn't it? That's the beauty of this concept – it gives us permission to explore our desires and dreams without the weight of external pressures.

My Personal Transition Journey

Let me share a bit of my own journey with you. Before I fully embraced my identity as a transgender and nonbinary individual, I often used the idea of a day that didn't count to untangle my desires from societal expectations. I'd ask myself questions like, "How would it feel to use they/them pronouns without fear of judgment?" or "What if I could have top surgery without having to explain myself to anyone?"

Confronting Fear: The Biggest Obstacle in Transition

What I discovered through this process was eye-opening. Fear was the biggest obstacle standing in the way of my transition. I was afraid of how others would perceive me, afraid of judgment, and afraid of not being accepted for who I truly am. But you know what? Once I faced that fear head-on, everything changed.

Embracing Transition with Confidence

Transitioning is a journey, not a destination. And let me tell you, it's one of the most rewarding journeys I've ever embarked on. By confronting my fears and embracing my true desires for my one corporeal form, I've been able to step into a life and body that feel authentically mine. From using they/them pronouns to undergoing top surgery, every step of my transition has been a leap toward living authentically. And I'm not done! I have more plans for this body!

Inviting You to Explore Your Authentic Self

Now, I want to invite you to join me on this journey of self-exploration. Take a moment to imagine a day without fear – a day where you can fully express your true identity without hesitation. What would that look like for you? What desires and dreams have you been suppressing out of fear?

Practical Steps for Self-Exploration

Here are some practical steps you can take to explore your authentic self:

1. Reflect on Your Desires:

Take some time to journal or meditate on what you truly want for yourself, separate from external expectations. I have a book of journal prompts that can help you get started.

2. Seek Support:

Surround yourself with understanding and supportive friends, family, or community members who will encourage you to be your true self.

3. Educate Yourself:

Take advantage of resources and information available about gender identity and transition. Knowledge is power, and the more you understand, the more confident you'll feel in your journey.

Embracing Authenticity Without Fear

Living authentically is a journey, and it's okay to take it one step at a time. Remember, you're not alone on this journey. There's a whole community of individuals out there who understand what you're going through and who are ready to support you every step of the way.

Conclusion: Dare to Live Without Fear

As February 29th approaches, I want to challenge you to embrace the spirit of a day that doesn't count every single day of your life. Dare to live authentically, without fear holding you back. You deserve to be seen, heard, and celebrated for exactly who you are. So go ahead, take that leap – I'll be right here cheering you on every step of the way.
