Why Not Me? The Three Words That Can Change Your Life

motivation Oct 21, 2024
3 words that can change your life!

Self-motivation can be a challenge, especially when you're on the verge of a big decision—whether it’s starting your gender transition, learning a new language, or transforming any aspect of your life. You might think, “Sure, other people can do that, but I’m not good enough, or smart enough, or [fill in the blank] enough to make it happen.”

I know those thoughts well. I’m Renée, a gender-affirming voice teacher, and I've heard it all—from my clients and even from myself. The doubts, the fears, the constant second-guessing. But when I feel that creeping self-doubt, I turn to three simple words that have been a game-changer for me, and they can be for you too: Why not me?

Why Not You?

  • Average people learn to speak Spanish every day. Why not you?
  • Thousands of people start running each day. Why not you?
  • Many before you have been courageous enough to pursue their gender transition. Why not you?

There’s something powerful about this phrase. It shifts your focus away from your perceived shortcomings and connects you to the humanity around you. It reminds you that learning new skills, making life changes, and embracing growth are part of the human experience.

Finding Your Motivation in Humanity

What I love about this approach is that it closes the gap between us and the people we admire. Those who have mastered a skill, changed their lives, or accomplished something meaningful—they're not superhuman. They're regular people who started where you are now. And if they can do it, why not you?

The more you practice this mindset, the more you’ll find yourself taking action instead of getting stuck in overthinking. You’ll start believing that the things you aspire to do are within your reach.

The Power of Practice

Like any practice, asking yourself, “Why not me?” can become a tool that propels you forward. Over time, you’ll stop hesitating and start moving. You'll see that the path to change isn't reserved for a special few; it's open to anyone who dares to step onto it—including you.

So, what do you think? Could "Why not me?" help shift your mindset and inspire you to take action? Share your thoughts in the YouTube comments—I’d love to hear from you!
