Help Tea Access Gender-Affirming Surgery (And Get 20% Off My Trans Voice Courses)
Mar 19, 2026
This isn't my typical trans voice training post, and I want to be upfront about that from the start.
Today I'm here to talk about someone who has been quietly behind the scenes of this channel for years: my editor, collaborator, and dear friend, Tea. Tea is a trans woman who is fundraising for gender-affirming surgery, and I want to do everything I can to help her get there.
If you donate any amount to Tea's GoFundMe before the end of March 31st, 2026 (Trans Day of Visibility), you'll receive 20% off my trans voice courses, AND I'll be personally matching every donation up to $2,000 CAD.
Keep reading for Tea's full story, all the details, and how to claim your discount.

Who Is Tea?
If you've spent any time on this blog and on my YouTube channel, you've experienced Tea's work, even if you didn't know it.
Tea and I met through mutual friends back in 2018. Over the past eight years, we've collaborated on documentaries, music videos, hundreds of short-form videos, and, most recently, the 50+ long-form trans voice YouTube videos we've put out together in the last year alone. She edits, directs, and shapes so much of what you see here.
Beyond the work, Tea has become one of my closest friends. She and her wife have shared their communities with me, I wrote a song for their engagement, and in 2023, I had the honour of officiating their wedding.
I know Tea well enough to know that asking for help doesn't come easily to her. Which is exactly why I want to show up for her now.
Tea's Story
The following is Tea's story, in her own words, lightly edited for the blog.
Hi, I'm Tea. If you've been watching Renée's content for the past couple of years, I've been the woman behind the curtain, editing almost everything, and occasionally popping up on screen as an easter egg.
I find it genuinely difficult to ask for help. But my best friend, my therapist, and my wife have all advised me to stop being so hard on myself about it and just ask. So, I'm asking for your help to afford a breast augmentation.
Here's a bit of context.
I'm a trans woman in my mid-thirties, and I've been transitioning for ten years as of my last birthday. It has not always been a smooth road.
My transition began with an endocrinologist who took a one-size-fits-all approach to hormone therapy, an approach that, for me, had serious consequences. About a year in, I had to find a new doctor, and in the process, I had to take a medically necessary pause in my transition that lasted over six months. This happened right at the start of my graduate degree, just after I'd finished coming out publicly. It was, to put it mildly, a lot to navigate at once.
After that, I found a set of truly trans-centred doctors, and I've been in good hands since. But that experience shaped how I approach my transition: I stopped expecting specific outcomes and started taking things one step at a time. I kept seeing my doctors, slowly adjusting my HRT, and putting any money I had toward laser and electrolysis, primarily on my face. (Ten years and roughly as much money as this surgery would cost later, my face is finally where I need it to be.)
My main sources of dysphoria have always been hair, the shape of my face, and the shape of my body. And while I'm so much more femme than when I started, it's still not enough to stop the dysphoria, or to stop being misgendered on a near-daily basis.
I work for myself, so I don't have insurance. And in my part of Canada, public healthcare coverage for gender-affirming surgeries is extremely limited. Breast augmentation isn't covered.
I didn't come from money. I've been paying my own way for a long time—student loans, transition costs, the tools of the trade as a working artist. But over the past few years, I've managed to save about $10,000 toward this surgery, which honestly feels like one of my greatest achievements. The problem is that's still only about two-thirds of what I need.
I've exhausted every non-surgical route I can think of. I've given HRT the time it needed, and it's clear that more time isn't going to get me where I need to be. What I need is this surgery.
I've spent years dealing with significant dysphoria every time I see myself without a bra. I want to be comfortable in my own body. That's all I'm asking for.
If we surpass the goal, I'd love to also address a tracheal shave. And if we raise more than $10,000 CAD total, any remaining funds will be donated to Point of Pride, so that money continues to support other trans people in accessing gender-affirming care.
I've never done anything like this before. I would genuinely be amazed if we hit the goal. But here I am, asking. Thank you for listening.
— Tea
The Fundraiser Details
Here's a clear summary of where things stand and what we're working toward:
- Goal A: Raise $5,000 CAD so Tea can complete funding for her breast augmentation.
- Goal B: If we surpass Goal A, raise another $5,000 CAD for a tracheal shave (also called a chondrolaryngoplasty, or Adam's apple reduction).
- If we exceed $10,000 CAD: All funds above that amount will be donated to Point of Pride.
Note: GoFundMe only allows a single total goal, so Tea has set the initial goal at $5,000. She'll update it if we pass that milestone.
The deadline for the discount (see below) is March 31st, 2026 — Trans Day of Visibility.

Scholarships & Other Ways to Give
While we're on the subject of community support: I run a scholarship program for my trans voice courses. If you need free or subsidized access to any of my courses, you can always apply at reneeyoxon.com/scholarships.
And if you'd like to contribute to that scholarship fund (maybe you're feeling extra generous today??) you're always welcome to donate at go.reneeyoxon.com/donate.

Here's everything in one place:
- Donate to Tea's GoFundMe — any amount, before the end of March 31st, 2026.
- Claim your 20% course discount by sending proof of donation via my contact page or to [email protected].
- Share this post with anyone in your community who might want to help, or who's been thinking about starting their voice training journey.
If you have any questions, leave a comment on the video above and Tea or I will reply as soon as we can.
Tea has spent years quietly making this channel what it is, and this is our chance to show up for her the way she has shown up for all of us. Thank you, from both of us, for being part of this community.
