Three easy posture exercises for voice masculinization

trans voice May 20, 2022

I asked my friend Dibs from Dibs Fitness to share three easy posture exercises for voice masculinization. But what do posture and voice have to do with each other?? A lot, actually, but today let’s focus on the pharynx.

the pharynx is a tube of muscle just above your larynx, at the back of your throat. It is part of your vocal tract. A big part of voice masculinization is darkening the resonance of the voice by making the vocal tract as big as possible. When you hunch and jut your chin forward, you compress that tube and make it smaller.

To get that dark boomy sound, we need to bring the chest up, the chin back and elevate the crown of the head. Think “stand proudly” and you’ll get it.

However!! I understand that many transmasc individuals have a long history of hunching for reasons relating to chest dysphoria. If that’s you, you may have a muscular imbalance making it hard or even painful to have good posture.

This is where Dibs comes in! In the video above, Dibs will show you three easy exercises to develop the muscles needed to correct that imbalance and get you standing proudly and loudly in no time!
